A 32-gigabyte version of the K1 consumer tablet will sell for $499and can be ordered starting Wednesday.

A 16-gigabyte version of the business tablet with Wi-Fi wireless capability will sell for $479. Lenovo will release versions compatible with third-generation cellular networks "shortly," the company said. Lenovo will enter a "regular release cycle" for tablet devices that will include new product announcements next year, Lenovo Chief Operating Officer Rory Read said during an interview.

Early next year, Mr. Read said, Lenovo is also likely to reveal the next generation of its IdeaPad U1 hybrid device. That device, which Lenovo says it launched in China along with the LePad tablet, includes a keyboard base into which the tablet can slide to operate more like a laptop.

Mr. Read also said Lenovo will continue seeking acquisition opportunities that boost the company's scale or strategic position.

Lenovo is "optimistic" about the process of acquiring German computer-maker Medion AG, he said. Lenovo said in June that it planned to buy Medion for as much as €465 million, or approximately $658 million, in cash and stock, partly via a public offer.

Also on Wednesday, Galaxy S smartphone maker Samsung said it launched its 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab computing device in South Korea after launches in the U.S. and parts of Europe.

J.K. Shin, president of Samsung's mobile-communications division, reiterated at a briefing that the company aims to sell five times as many tablets this year as it sold last year. Samsung, based in South Korea sold more than one million tablets last year.ͨÐÅÊÀ½çÍø
