Top management from HP (HPQ) China has disclosed to local media that HP has obtained a license for smart mobile phones in China and it will join in the mobile phone market competition in the country.

    A representative from HP China who is responsible for the mobile phone service says that HP launched its first type of smart phone, the iPAQ hw6515, in China at the end of 2005 and had it distributed through Digital China. However, as the license they applied for is a single one that is only applicable to that type of mobile phone, they have not been able to sell other types of mobile phones in China. This new license allows them to unveil a range of smart phones for Chinese consumers.

    At present, HP is replacing its mobile phone products with new generation ones in the Asia Pacific region and the United States. So the obtaining of the intellectual mobile phone license is expected to bring a series of big moves from the company.
