Samsung to Help Sprint Build WiMAX in New York

    Samsung Electronics Co. will provide the infrastructure for Sprint Nextel¡¯s New York WiMAX market, the companies said Monday.

    Sprint had previously awarded Samsung the Baltimore, Boston, Philadelphia, Providence, R.I., and Washington, D.C., markets. Financial terms have not been released.

    Sprint announced two weeks ago a $5 billion WiMAX plan called XOHM that it expects to reach 100 million people by the end of next year and be profitable by 2011. The companies have said Washington could be ready for a commercial launch early next year. They are aiming for a New York launch by fourth quarter 2008.
