After only running the program for a few days, Beijing Netcom now says on its website that it will suspend its campaign to stop users from hogging precious bandwidth.

The plan was originally to automatically disconnect connections that had been active for 48 hours. Beijing Netcom said this measure was intended to help users avoid huge amounts of Internet fees resulting from long network connections.

But now that this plan has caused wide disputes, particularly from monthly package users who claimed the measure was unfair to them. The company says it will now reconsider the plan and launch a new one to protect the users' interest after taking into consideration the opinions and comments of all the parties involved.

Beijing Netcom has also gratuitously reminded users of only using equipment with network access permitted by Chinese government regulatory agencies when surfing online and paying attention to the time length so as to protect their own interests.
