The T1600 uses the same components as the T640 and offers a seamless upgrade path that takes less than 90 minutes and is non-service affecting. ¡°The challenge that service providers have is that this massive growth in scale and these requirements for taking service control mean that in many cases their installed legacy routers with a few 10 gigabit interface capability are going to need to be replaced over the next 12 to 24 months,¡± said Sardella. ¡°Given this need to upgrade, what¡¯s important is to be able to make a seamless upgrade, to be able to protect the investment they have made as much as possible in interfaces, infrastructure and operating processes. What we have is a unique system for upgrading with a kit from a T640 to a T1600 that is able to be done in service without disrupting any services.¡±
Like the T640 and all T, M and J series routers, the T1600 also uses the JUNOS operating system, including the recently introduced point-to-multipoint MPLS capabilities for core video distribution, improvements in optical network integration, as well as 10gigabit Ethernet optical interfaces and 40gbps interface cards.
